Mountain Contemporary

This was to be “the last house”, so every detail was thoughtfully considered. We worked with the homeowners to space plan the room layouts to meet their needs, designed custom cabinetry, ceilings, fireplaces & stone details, custom furnishings & decor, and offered project management services to ensure the end result matched their dream vision. The homeowners asked for features and finishes that were unique and interesting. How exciting to work with clients that desired something fresh & new!

The contemporary mountain home sits on a ridge within the active gated community of The Cliffs at Walnut Cove in Asheville, NC. The home features custom details fabricated by some of the most talented craftsmen in our region. Curved window walls frame the mountain views, carved stone tiles are grazed with light behind a freestanding tub, and a custom crafted concrete fireplace grounds the living area. It’s all about the curves, from arches framing stair ways & niches to wave shaped hardware that echoes wave patterned hand carved tiles. Even the raised countertop of the Kitchen island features an elegant curved end detail, supported by custom stainless supports. At the outdoor fireplace, curved sconces complete the space, and add a soft glow for evening entertaining, or a cozy night snuggled by the fire.

In the lower family room, a custom bar flanks one side, while a linear fireplace clad in a granite surround is surrounded by Windows & mountains beyond. The large screen tv can be enjoyed from the motorized leather recliners, which also swivel to take in the views. When a curved wall was initially set inside a closet, we recommended making it a feature wall of a guest master shower, and they agreed, creating a wonderful feature for visitors to enjoy during their stay.

Furniture, fabric, lighting and decor selections were coordinated to enhance and reflect the custom curved design elements throughout each room of the house. A neutral palette allows the views to take center stage, while the variety of textures provide visual interest. Accent color is introduced through artwork and area rugs that can be changed out over time should the client desire. The backgrounds are timeless and allowing the accent colors to be changed out over time to the client’s current preference.

In the end, our clients love their home. It is perfectly suited to their taste and lifestyle with enough space to entertain, and with cozy nooks to get away for alone time as well. It’s a space for making new memories, and enjoying what years of hard work have provided…a dream come true!
