Mountain Park
Our design firm partners with builders and architects on custom home projects. That was the case for our Mountain Park Residence project, for which we collaborated with Samsel Architects and Morgan Keefe Builders. The clients lived out of state during the build, so we were part of the design build team, with regular site visits during construction. We selected all the fixtures and finishes attached to the house. Where the architects left off on interior detailing, our firm added to cabinetry and built in designs, decorative lighting fixture selections, plumbing fixtures, tile selections and layouts, wood species and stains, and other architectural features.
The homeowners were relocating from Chicago to the Carolinas, in what was to be their retirement home. They have pets and adult children, and wanted the home to be contemporary but livable. Clean slab style cabinetry is painted out in the wall color, for a neutral background that doesn’t detract from the massive window walls and views beyond. Natural toned white oak floors and walnut features like the custom island add warmth to the rooms. Fabrics and finishes are durable, including many Crypton stain resistant fabrics, to ensure the clients can enjoy their home with their family and pets. Her favorite color is orange, which we incorporated in artwork, area rugs and fabrics that can be easily changed over time.
In the stairwell, the architects imagined a gallery feel to a space that connects both floors of the home. We incorporated an LED chandelier to pick up the steel toned railings, and selected a modern painting that incorporated the colors used throughout the house. The Master Suite bed wall is clad in white oak, repeating a detail from the Living Room. The pendant lighting keeps the nightstands free of clutter, and the color palette is intentionally restful and serene. The lower level Media built-in is our custom design, as are many of the furniture, fabric and decor selections. We designed and selected items for the home from local and regional sources, ensuring that as the homeowners moved to the Carolinas they were also reinvesting back into their local community of artists and makers. They love that these selections add to the hand crafted and regional feel of the area that they now call home, to their interiors.
