Transitional Ramble Renovation
Talli was contacted by a couple relocating from California to Asheville, NC who had purchased an existing home in The Ramble community. They were thrilled to find an existing home, and were now ready to make it their own but needed a team in place to help bring their visions to reality. A+R introduced the homeowners to Jay Howard of BUILD, whose team handled the renovations. A+R went to work reimagining the interiors as a better reflection of the new owner’s tastes.
The color palette of the home at time of purchase was dark and dated, with bold red and gold tones. What started out as a simple facelift of paint colors, lighting and furniture soon grew into a larger renovation, and a reimagining of the interior palette as a whole. Our design team applied neutral backgrounds as a base for accents in bold color. The homeowners already had a collection of artwork in bright tones, so a gallery approach worked well for the interior color palette.
The newly renovated Kitchen features the original wood beams and wood floors, with new painted cabinetry and a bold blue stain on the island. The plaster hood and herringbone backsplash tiles add interest, while the crushed fused glass lighting adds sparkle. And the homeowners existing collection of hand made pottery pieces add the finishing touch in the upper glass cabinets. The broad strokes are classic and timeless, with accent pieces to make a statement such as the island’s color and the sheen of the lighting.
In the Den off the Kitchen, the existing stone fireplace was too heavy for the new owners and the color palette too dark. A new larger window with views to the landscape was added to bring in natural light, while the fireplace was updated with large format tiles and a concrete hearth and mantle. Again, the light and neutral backgrounds allowed for more interest in the colorful sectional sofa and to showcase the existing artwork.
In the Dining Room and Master Bedroom, soft aqua and sage green tones were employed for a restful and serene feel, while lighting adds sparkle and glow. The upholstery is neutral, comfortable and classic enough to stand the test of time. The Dining Room’s coffered ceiling balances another crushed glass fixture, for added drama during meals with family and friends.
We have enjoyed helping our clients through the challenges of moving, renovating and decorating a new home. They have hosted many friends and family in their newly reimagined home since the renovations were completed. Our team continues to work with the owners on added touches and details to personalize each space to reflect their lifestyle. Most recently, the colorful painting over the Living Room mantle was added, through our contacts at local art galleries. It’s just the right finishing touch for this transitional renovation in The Ramble.
